wow like any feature in campfire is really that amazing or innovative. don’t understand what all the fuss is about.
which brings me to a thought about web applications and patents in general. the web is maturing to a point where there will eventually be just ONE WAY to do something. the accepted norm, er, development practice. you might be worried about net neutrality, but to be honest the whole patents on the web situation is even scarier.
how many customers would 37signals really have lost to this free app by google? i dont even think that in building this google app they are even trying to compete with 37signals, the fact they took it down to please all the babies on the web shows that it was more a proof of concept app then anything else.
which makes me think, is it really necessary to pay for that kind of application on the web? maybe thats what jason is worried about, losing customers because they see the subscription fee they are paying is maybe, well, too much.
i don’t think that 37signals in their building of campfire really innovated upon anything unless you think mashing up some popular applications like chat/file management/irc/forums is AMAZING.
if you do you’re a tool.
