“There’s an unpleasant converse: Desk jockeys will have to face the fact that part of their job is to understand the tools they’re being paid to use. People will never take responsibility for learning about their computers as long as it’s easier to pick up a phone and whine to someone.” via Valleywag
Is it so wrong to understand the tools you use everyday? The only reason I know anything about computers/programming at all is because I spent alot of my time figuring that out. My time. Is it so wrong for me to expect you to do the same? I mean, I’m not all that intelligent, and I figured it out. Surely you can spend a few minutes to figure out how to copy and paste. I’m just asking you for a little RTFM.

We didn’t use computers in high school. I’ve never taken a single class that talked about or overtly used computers except for one autoCAD class – and we spent the first two weeks reviewing how to insert and access a floppy. Why is it then that people are constantly asking me to help them with their PC problems … because I actually help(ed). This past few years has been much more serene ever since my response became: “yeah, I’m not sure why it does that – you just have to fiddle with it and figure it out…”
