i think too many people are having an obama-gasm without actually really looking into who he is. new media does a good job at not pointing out his flaws. i dont think hillary or mccain would be better, or have less flaws per se, but i don’t feel like hes a decision maker.
ill think hell get elected just like how clinton got elected, not on merits alone.
sure this story is pretty michael moore in how it spins one side, im actually sad that you would say you would vote for him because of all these negative things he brings up.
anti-patriot. that makes you want to vote for him.
can’t vote on important issues. that makes you want to vote for him.
obvious ties to racial inequality with intent to persecute. that makes you want to vote for him.
sad really.
i would really like some more clarity into his campaign, and would like to see some kind of point for point response, just for showing both sides, any links or anything like that? his website is just as bad as all the other candidates.
I completely understand what he and his wife have said/done in terms of the flag and not necessarily being recklessly proud of being American. It’s a cheap vote to wave the flag, and a meaningless move. What does the flag mean? I think the video I did on the flag sums it up for me.
The lack of voting is definitely a negative factor. I’m going more on presence of mind and overall intelligence on this one.
I think the nut of this depends on how we view the presidency itself. They’re not supposed to have the kind of power Bush has. The flag-waving over the war enabled him to eat away at the check-and-balance system. If he were to run wild as Bush has, I feel like Obama’s “reckless” social consciousness would lead to actual improvements here at home. Practically, in politics, the president is bound by corporate dollars, private alliances, party politics and to a smaller degree, public opinion.
I don’ think his health care plan is going to solve the health care industry, but it would help some people who need it. He’s wishy washy on the border. His “pay as you go” method would be an improvement from the past presidency.
There’s so much more to say on all of this and it takes too long to write it out. I think my basic philosophy on politics is that Christians should stay out of politics and let the secular world rule itself. If Christians want to engage, they shouldn’t try to make Christian rules for secular people. Forcing them to abide by religious reason is dangerous. It seems fine now because Christianity is the main religion here, but when it isn’t, the ground rules are set that it’s OK to mix someone else’s religious ideas with your daily life. Anyway, I don’t believe being an American has anything to do with Jesus or being a good Christian. Patriotism to a particular country scares me.
yeah im still not convinced of his ability to obtain the country’s dedication. he didn’t really win any “important” states, and barley won the democratic party nom. i think that if he was to win against mccain, he would have taken some of the bigger states that hillary won. you can’t just assume that he will get the states that hillary won now against mccain, not everyone that supports/ed hillary will support obama.
as to the christianity in government, i don’t believe that gov’t requires a religious influence to be successful, and that legislating morality ever has the intended effect. i don’t think christians should stay out of politics but rather the politics should stay out of the christian, if that makes sense.
bush has too much power. but obama has not denied acceptance of that very same power. have you heard of signing statements?
